Comments

This Fine Silver (.999) Proof 50 cent coin was released as part of the annual Fine Silver Proof Year Set. The Royal Australian Mint began releasing Fine Silver Year Sets in 2003 and have continued to do so since then. The Australian Coat of Arms standard reverse, 12 sided, 50 cent coin was first included in the 2004 Fine Silver Proof Year set and every year since then except for 2005, 2006 & 2016 when it was not part of the set. In those years a commemorative 50 cent was used. The Jody Clark 6th Portrait of Queen Elizabeth has been used on the obverse of coins in this 2020 edition of the set for the first time.

The Fine Silver Proof Set normally includes a 5 cent, 10 cent, 20 cent, $1 & $2 coin as well as this 50 cent coin. The sets are issued in a presentation case, initially made from jarrah wood but recently made from plastic or imitation wood.

The standard Copper-nickel version of the 50 cent coin which this Silver coin is based on was introduced into circulation in Australia in 1969 to replace the round silver 50 cent coin introduced in 1966.
