According to Linder, Explorations in Ottoman Pre-History (2007, chapter 4), the Ilkhan Ghazan permitted a large number of Anatolian local rulers to mint coins in his name in the Islamic year 699, equating to 1299/1300 in the Christian calendar. Having faced a major rebellion, allowing local rulers to mint coins in his name was a way to ensure their loyalty whilst also recognising their local authorities.
