This series has “the sea” as theme, and a sub-theme for each denomination. All the banknotes feature an easily recognaisable picture on the obverse and a pixelated related picture on the reverse.

The sub-themes are:

The 50-krone banknote: The sea that binds us together
The 100-krone banknote: The sea that takes us out into the world
The 200-krone banknote: The sea that feeds us
The 500-krone banknote: The sea that gives us prosperity
The 1000-krone banknote: The sea that carries us forward

This series follow the language if the previous with all the notes featuring both Bokmål (book language, which is based on Danish) on the obverse and Nynorsk (new Norwegian, which is based on conservative dialects) on the reverse. The contrast is in Bokmål the word “Norway's” is “Norges” and in Nynorsk it is “Noregs”.
