NOTE: They were printed but never issued from series E to L, except series I.

Silver Certificate Banknotes: Due to the loss of purchasing power of the peseta, together with the increase in the price of silver, there was a fear that the 5 Pesetas coins (the silver "duros") would disappear from circulation to be sold as metal.
The Government of the Republic considered the manufacture of 5 and 10 Peseta notes to replace the 5 Peseta coins, after withdrawing them from circulation. The General Council of the Bank opposed this due to their nature as compulsory circulation paper money, since they were not backed by any metal cover.
On June 18, 1935, an agreement was reached with the Public Treasury by which it was determined that these would not be notes issued by the Bank of Spain, but rather "Certified" notes that would replace the coins minted by the State, which would cover the manufacturing costs, although it would be the Bank that would be in charge of the paperwork. Since they were certificates, they had to be backed by a silver deposit in the Bank's vaults, in an amount at least equal to that of the banknotes issued.
In this case, one of the resolutions of the Decree of 23 July 1931 on the appearance of allegories of the Republic was finally adopted; something that had not been fulfilled in previous issues. They were put into circulation on 17 October 1936, when the Spanish Civil War had already begun.
Like the rest of the banknotes issued during the war on the Republican side, they were withdrawn from circulation on 1 April 1939.
