Comments

This NCLT Aluminium-bronze commemorative $1 coin produced by the RAM is the first coin in a set of three that will recognise Mutiny and Rebellion in the South Pacific and Australia between 1789 and 1854. This particular coin is about the Mutiny on the Bounty and was issued in a large coincard.

The coin has also been released in a PNC by Australia Post (6,000 Copies)

A special overprinted edition of the PNC was sold at the ANDA Sydney Money Expo limited to 500 copies.

A domineering, ill tempered Captain, an angry group of sailors and an overcrowded ship. In 1789, this situation escalated dramatically aboard HMS Bounty, and Captain William Bligh and eighteen loyal crew members were forced into an overcrowded launch and set adrift on the ocean. Unknown to the mutineers on the Bounty, this fateful moment would shape Australia's colonial history. It led to the foundation of Norfolk Island's unique culture and language, and to Bligh's turbulent governorship of New South Wales - which in turn provoked a dramatic and historic rebellion.
