Sixth son of Muhammad I of the Baharite dynasty, Al-Muzaffar Sayf ad-Din Hajji came to power in 1346 following the assassination of his brother Sha`ban I.
The following year, as a famine raged in Cairo, he decided to empty the imperial treasury with the help of one of his slaves. At the same time, the rumor of a purge dictated by this sultan towards the emirs spread, the latter decided to take the lead and to assassinate him in December of the same year.
His half-brother Hasan succeeded him.
