The attribution of this piece has not been definitive in the past. In the 20th century, it was often attributed to Merseburg (cf. Fd. Gera-Naumburg 11, Gaettens Collection 793, Riechmann & Co. Sales Catalogue 6 (1917), 2986). Furthermore, a similar specimen is mentioned in Manfred Mehl's Quedlinburg publication, but due to its weaker execution, it cannot be definitively compared to this type. Since Mehl (Quedlinburg) No. 370 is the only known example of this type, there seems to be no obstacle to its reassignment to the later publication Mehl (Naumburg) No. 249, so that Mehl (Quedlinburg) No. 370 and Mehl (Naumburg) No. 249 may be identical. Stylistically, this type strongly resembles Bohemian bracteates under Přemysl II (cf., among others, Cach 787).
