Comments

Examples of ‘uthmanis (the Yemeni version of the Ottoman akçe) during the reign of Süleyman I were minted in several locations, the most common being Sana'a and Zabid, but also in Aden, Damarmar, Kawkaban, and Sa'dah. Some were inscribed with the accession year of the sultan, 926AH (1520CE), but in at least some of the mints the actual year of minting was included on the coin, rare at this stage in Ottoman numismatic history.
