Comments

Copper issue was minted by William Wood Successors in London or Bristol when the second issue was made at Castletown (Isle of Man) between 15.01.1733 and 23.03.1734 by Amos Topping and Samuel Dyall. They used the metal from old brass cannon at Castle Rushen which was described as “Bath metal”  (low-grade tin bronze = copper 97.6, tin 2.2, iron 0.04, zinc trace).

Some confusions exists about 1733 coinage, the Bath metal coins are frequently described as brass or bronze. Mackay catalogue indicate that apart of the bath metal/bronze, there were some pieces issued also in brass.

This page is for Bath metal/Bronze version.
