Comments

Tromelin is a low, flat, island in the Indian Ocean, about 350 kilometres (220 mi) east of Madagascar. The island was first recorded by a French navigator, Jean Marie Briand de la Feuillée, in 1722 and initially named Île des Sables.

It is administered as a French overseas territory, as the result of an agreement with the United Kingdom in 1954, but sovereignty is disputed with ownership claimed by both Mauritius and the Seychelles. In 2010, France and Mauritius reached an agreement to co-manage Tromelin.

Currently, the island has a weather station and is a nesting site for boobies and green sea turtles.

This issue is part of a series of coins dedicated to French Overseas Departments and Territories.
