Comments

This particular issue was conceived in the late 1860s, at which time various countries were trying to come up with a gold coin to compete with the French 5 Francs. Under William Wyon, Great Britain designed this lovely, gold "Double-Florin" which stated its intention to circulate internationally on the reverse. Unfortunately, it never got further than a number of Pattern coins.
