The identity of the sitter for the Mona Lisa has been a point of debate for Art Historians over the centuries and the design on this coin is taken from the theory that the Mona Lisa is a self portrait of Leonardo Da Vinci and shows an image of the Mona Lisa morphing into a portrait of the artist. The wording in the surround is in the mirror writing style that Leonardo adopted and his signature is also included in the design.
