In order to highlight some elements of traditional culture that make up our identity, the INCM, in collaboration with the National Museum of Ethnology, created a series of collectible coins entitled «Portuguese Ethnography». The fourth coin in this series, created by the sculptor Baiba Šime, is alluding to the « Figurado de Barcelos », original figures in baked and painted clay that are born from the brilliant creativity of master craftsmen, who explore religious and festive themes, life daily life, the bestiary (devils and misshapen figures) or popular legends and narratives, where the famous Rooster of Barcelos stands out.
