The Mona Lisa (Italian: La Gioconda or Mona Lisa ), or Portrait of Mona Lisa, is a painting by Leonardo da Vinci, created between 1503 and 1506, or between 1513 and 1516, and possibly as late as 1517 (the artist died onMay 2, 1519), depicts a half-body portrait of the Florentine Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo. Most probably acquired by Francis ^I, this 79 × 53 cm oil painting on poplar panel is now on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The Mona Lisa is one of the few paintings definitively attributed to Leonardo da Vinci.
