Obverse and reverse of a denarius from the time of Charles the Bald, the period during which they appeared. It is notably by the Edict of Pîtres, (represented in the background) that Charles the Bald authorized in 864 the minting of coins in ten official places. The seal of the Edict represents the king and is surrounded by the phrase "GLORIA SIT XPO REGI VICTORIA CARLO" (May the Glory be to Christ and the Victory to King Charles). Below the face value "5 EURO".
