Type composed of 625‰ silver and 375‰ copper, designed by Ludwig Habicht and struck at the Stuttgart mint.
This coin and 10 francs 1929 (KM # 39) were the first pieces to represent the portrait of the Grand Duchess and the first silver coins of the Grand Duchy.
The Grand-Ducal Decree and the Ministerial Decree of 3rd August, 1929, ordering the coinage of silver of 5 francs to replace the cash drafts. The withdrawal of these documents was ordered by the Grand-Ducal Decree of 14 October 1944 and formalized by public notice dated 4 March 1949. They were still accepted as payment or exchanged at par by the Public Caisses until 30 April 1949 .
