This medal reflects the feelings of people during the Cold War period, around 1947 to 1989, during which there were always fears of the outbreak of a nuclear war. The Berlin blockade of 1948/49, the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 and the dispute over the stationing of medium-range missiles in Europe from 1979 to 1983 repeatedly raised fears that nuclear weapons could be used.
