Issued by the Royal Dutch Mint in a “Piekenset”, a set of gulden coins, as a replica of the first provincial gulden from 1681. The spear or stick (Dutch: piek) that supports the hat gave the coin the nickname “Piek”.
The set also contained four other gulden coins, minted under Queen Wilhelmina, Queen Juliana, and Queen Beatrix. Two of these coins are made of silver.
