Comments

1. Comparing KM#76.1a, KM#76.2a, KM#76.3 and KM#76.4, the main difference between KM#76.1a and the other sub types is its very large lettering. (left image)
2. The date on the 1976 coin the has a '1' with a small pointy serif and a '9' with a straight end. The date on the 1989 coin has a '1' with a large blunt serif and a '9' with a curved end. (right image) (difference noticed by E.Timmermans)

1. Lempira, the present currency of Honduras, was introduced in 1931 replacing the Peso. The Lempira is divided into 100 Centavos.

The currency is named after Lempira, a chieftain of the indigenous Lenca people, who waged war against Spanish occupation of the country during the 16th century. He is revered as a national hero.

2. Sept. 15, 1821, within the Coat of Arms commemorates the day when 5 Central American countries including Honduras gained independence from Spanish rule. 15th Sept is celebrated as the National Day of Honduras.
