Comments

The popularity of non-denominated silver Chōgin and Mameitagin had been declining since the denominated Ichibugin was issued. Ichibugin was more convenient to use, and gave large amount of profit to the mint, therefore, the quantity of Ansei Chōgin and Mameitagin were not as much compare to the past. Silver in circulation was mainly Ichibugin and paper scrips.

 

The silver currency was aboilished on 28th June 1868. All silver has to be exchanged into gold Ryō or cash Mon. Exchange rate declared by Dajōkan on 23rd November 1868 is 12 Ryō 3 Bu 3 Shu per Kan (1000 Monme) of Ansei Chōgin and Mameitagin.

 

Ansei Chōgin and Mameitagin have total mintage of 102 907 Kan (about 386 ton).
