Comments

Believed to have been produced in 1981. From the numbering, it appears that the ‘F’ serial numbers started after running out of the ‘P’ numbers. The stamping appears to have ceased production in the middle of the ‘FB’ serial numbers.

Engelhard produced another series of portrait-style bars from 1981 to 1985. There are three possible varieties with the big-E logo in the globe. The Variety 1 has a smooth-E, the Variety 2 has a frosted-E and the Variety 3 has a roughly frosted-E logo. Some of the third varieties have a proof-like finish. Mintage numbers for Variety 1 apply to all 3 varieties. Serial numbers starts with a two-letter prefix starting with the letter-F and a five-digit number (as with the example above).
