Comments

Although mentioned under Bischwiller (page 122), this token is listed under Haguenau on page 132 of A. Marchand's book.
At that time the bottles bore the mark of the brewery molded in the glass. It was therefore important that the bottles were returned to the place where they had been purchased. As this was not always the case, the stockists themselves had to sort out the return of the empty bottles among themselves. To remedy this inconvenience, it was decided to charge 1 F for the deposit of each bottle when the beer was purchased. The customer also received a token of 1 F per bottle purchased. The token bore the name of the depository and could only be redeemed at the depository.Automatically translated
